Abstract
Controlled-release systems are used to control
the plasma concentration of the drug after administration by various possible
routes. These are the systems in which the drug is released in a predetermined
pattern over a fixed period of time. The release kinetics is usually
zero-order. Ideally the release rate from the dosage form should be the rate-
determining step for the absorption of the drug and in fact for the drug
concentration in the plasma and target site. The controlled release
formulations will reduces the dosing frequency required for daily. This article
provides an ideal requirements, advantages, properties and different approaches
involved in the development of controlled release formulations for the better
delivery of drugs.
