Abstract
Transdermal drug delivery system topically administered owns discrete dosage forms in the form of patches that are capable of drug delivery for systemic effects at a predetermined and controlled rate to the systemic circulation. Transdermal drug delivery system provides continuous input of drugs with short biological half lives and eliminates pulsed entry into systemic circulation which often causes undesirable side effects. Glimepiride, a second generation sulfonylureas anti diabetic drug is effective for the treatment of Type II diabetes mellitus and acts by stimulating pancreatic β- cells to produce more insulin and lower the blood glucose level. Alloxan is the most commonly used chemical for induction of diabetes mellitus. It is used to produce experimental diabetes (due to the selective destruction of the insulin producing pancreatic beta islets) in animals such as rabbits,rats,miceanddogs.UsingAlloxanitispossibletoinducedifferentgradesofseverityofdiabetesbychangingitsdoses.
