Phytochemical and pharmacological studies on Polyalthia longifolia

Abstract: Polyalthia longifolia (Sonn.) Thwaites (PL) is a tall handsome evergreen tree, is belongs to Annonaceae family. It is distributed in all over India and many tropical countries. It is commonly used as ornamental street tree due to its effectiveness in reducing noise pollution. The compounds present in this plant are steroids, alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolics and flavonoids used in traditional system of medicine for treatment of fever, skin diseases, diabetes and heliminthiasis. Polyalthia longifolia has significant biological and pharmacological activities such as anti-microbial, hypotensive, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, anti-hyperglycimic, anti-fungal, anti-leishmanial, anti-ulcer and termicidal activity.
